Invoices from other restaurant linen suppliers can be frustrating. They may not even tell you how many linens you’re using.

At Dempsey Uniform & Linen Supply, we harness technologies, like our VacuTrack™, CustomerPortal, and SilverSaver™ systems, to provide you with knowledge and insight via an online Customer Portal. This proprietary interface enables you to view and adjust your orders to control the total cost. We only bill you based on usage, plus, when employees leave flatware in your soil bags, we collect and return it to you at no additional cost.

Once known for German Cuisine, Restaurants in Reading now cater to a Growing Hispanic Population

Reading, Pennsylvania, was established in 1748 by Richard and Thomas Penn, sons of the state’s namesake William Penn, and was christened as an homage to Reading, Berkshire, England. Early immigrants were principally from Germany, and the Pennsylvania Dutch dialect of German was spoken in the area until the 1950s. Although only 10 square miles in area, Reading is Pennsylvania’s fifth largest city. Its population peaked at 120,000 in the 1930s and was followed by a period of sharp decline. In 2000, suburban sprawl from northwest Philadelphia and an influx of Hispanic-Americans began reversing the trend. Today, more than 60% of Reading’s residents identify as Hispanic.

In the early 1970s, some of the original factories belonging to the Reading Glove & Mitten Mfg. Co. were remodeled to create The Vanity Fair Outlet Village, the first such outlet mall in the United States. Subsequently, shopping became a significant tourist industry in Reading. Today, Boscov’s department store and Walmart are among the top 10 employers in the city.

In addition to a myriad of local restaurants that serve the expected German fare, Reading is home to some unique culinary draws. Visitors drive to the area to visit the Stokesay Castle, a high-end, classic American restaurant and steak house set in a renovated mansion built to look like a 13th century English castle. Originally constructed in 1931 as a luxurious vacation home, the Stokesay Castle, with its vaulted cathedral ceilings, wooden beams, and beautifully renovated buildings and grounds, is a memorable place to spend an evening, enjoy a meal, or hold a party.

The Pagoda, a local landmark, is a seven-story Japanese pagoda that towers over the city of Reading. It was built in 1906 as a luxury resort, but the original owner ran out of money. Local business owner Jonathon Mould and his wife, Julia Bell Mould, bought the property and “sold” it to the city of Reading for a dollar. The Pagoda is still open to the public, and from 600 feet above the city, offers a breathtaking view of the City and surrounding countryside.

Dempsey Uniform & Linen Supply provides table linens, uniform rentals, and facility supplies to a wide variety of hospitality and dining establishments in the Reading area, including Works at Wyomissing and Jumbo China Buffet.
